A woman was found dead in the passenger seat of a burning car in the middle of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway early Friday.

Police responding to a 911 call found a 2007 Infiniti G35 ablaze in the center lane of the BQE near the Prospect Expressway in Gowanus, Brooklyn, around 4 a.m. The car was in a westbound lane but facing east, cops said.

Firefighters racing to extinguish the blaze discovered the victim dead in the front passenger seat, cops said. There was nobody in the cars driver seat.

Cops were trying to determine if the driver fled or if the woman was in the drivers seat and climbed into the passenger seat in an attempt to escape the burning vehicle.

Cops were not immediately able to identify the woman.

The city Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of the woman’s death.
