After an Oklahoma man pleaded guilty to raping a teen girl, people are calling for the judge who sentenced him to 15 years probation to step down.

The petition has over 64,600 signatures demanding District Judge Wallace Coppedges removal from the bench for going easy on 36-year-old Benjamin Petty instead of sentencing him to prison.

Petty pleaded guilty on Jan. 19 to raping the girl at a church camp where he reportedly worked as a cook in 2016. He was charged with forcible sodomy, first-degree rape, and rape by instrumentation, according to KFOR-TV.

Murray County Assistant District Attorney David Pyle negotiated the plea deal and didnt bring up prison time because Petty is legally blind.

The big thing is Mr. Petty is legally blind and the parents (of the victim) live out of state and this little girl lives out of state and didn’t want to make all the travels back and forth, the attorney told The Oklahoman. The plea was negotiated with their permission.

Pyle added that Petty was blind when the rape happened. As part of the plea agreement, Petty has to wear an ankle bracelet for two years and register as a sex offender.
