ORLANDO This always was going to get uglier and worse before it got better for the Giants and Odell Beckham Jr. if it ever gets better, if there’s a future for them together at all.
One day after Giants president John Mara wouldn’t commit to Beckham even being on the team in 2018 and said Beckham’s behavior gives the club unquestionable pause about making a long-term commitment, NFL Networks Ian Rapoport is reporting that Beckham “will not set foot on a field without a new contract extension agreed to with the Giants or any team.
Beckham’s stance is not surprising, considering in late February he had promised he would play “zero” preseason snaps. But he is now planting his flag firmly in the ground that a holdout will happen if he doesn’t get a contract extension.
The Daily News caught both Mara and fellow Giants co-owner Steve Tisch walking into their Monday morning meetings here at the Ritz-Carlton, but both declined comment. Mara quietly shook his head and said no and kept walking.
Ill talk to ya Tuesday, GM Dave Gettleman said of his scheduled group media availability, never breaking stride. And I dont talk about contracts.
Tisch is scheduled to address the New York media early Monday afternoon and reserved the right basically to converse with Mara before adding to the conversation.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
