Lawrence ODonnells cool demeanor at MSNBC was all an act, at least for one night.
The Last Word host had a minor meltdown between breaks on his show Aug. 29, captured in a leaked video acquired by Mediaite.
The eight-minute clip, seemingly compiled of different segments during the same night, features ODonnell ranting about a conversation going on in his earpiece while anchoring his show.
Whos asking for a Labor Day rundown in my ear? Someone in that control room is losing control, he said.
Theres insanity in the control room tonight.
After another segment, ODonnell begins shouting about hammering he can hear in the background.
Stop hammering. Wheres the hammer? Whos hammering? he shouted.
Ill go down to the godd–n floor myself and stop it, keep the godd–n commercial break going. Call f–king (MSNBC president) Phil Griffin. I dont care who the f–k you have to call. Stop the hammering. Empty out the godd–n control room and find out where this is going on.
He continued ranting about the f–king out of control s–t before seemingly going into the next segment.
ODonnell then had complaints about words that hadnt been cut from the script.
It just f–king sucks. It f–king sucks to be out here with this out of control shit.
The 65-year-old anchor, who began his career as a legislative aide in Congress, joined MSNBC as a regular contributor on Morning Joe with Joe Scarborough in 2009.
He began hosting The Last Word in September 2010 and took over Keith Olbermanns 8 p.m. slot on the network four months later.
A rep for the network declined to comment.
