A man accused of brutally murdering his wife before taking their 1-year-old daughter to buy cocaine adamantly denied the killing as her family members jeered at him in court.
Andrew MacCormack, 29, pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of his wife Vanessa MacCormack, who was found dead in their Revere, Mass., in September.
Relatives of the beloved elementary school teacher jeered at the accused killer, yelling Dont even look at us, and Scumbag! in the Suffolk Superior Court, according to the Boston Globe.
When the judge denied a request for $50,000 bail, another relative of Vanessa MacCormack pumped her fist and said, Yes!
Vanessa MacCormack had her teeth knocked out and suffered stab wounds to her face and neck, at least one of which was delivered after she was already dead, Assistant District Attorney Ian Polumbaum told the court.
The teacher, who was also strangled with pretty extreme force, was found with bleach poured on her body, according to Assistant District Attorney Ian Polumbaum.
On the day of the killing, Andrew MacCormack took a brief trip to the liquor store in the morning before leaving the house with his daughter around 12:50 p.m. to go to a friends house.
He texted his wife while he was there, even though evidence suggests she was already dead, Plumbaum said.
At 2.15 p.m., he headed to meet his drug dealer in East Boston to buy cocaine – something he spent up to $500 a week on, according to the Boston Herald, citing court documents.
He was on the phone with his mother-in-law when he returned home and told her he found Vanessa Mac Cormack on the floor, Polumbaum said.
When the mother-in-law urged him to do something, he only checked her neck for a pulse and said, Shes dead, according to Polumbaum.
A kitchen knife was missing from a butchers block in their home, and there were no signs of forced entry, Polumbaum said. There were also traces of blood in their house and Andrew MacCormacks SUV.
According to prosecutors, Vanessa MacCormack texted her husband about a month before her death, saying she was looking into selling their house and getting a divorce.
Her husband responded, Ur crazy. Im not signing anything.
