If The Shape of You blaring at every store, restaurant and SoulCycle class all year wasnt enough of a clue, Spotify has finally confirmed the obvious: On Tuesday, Ed Sheeran was announced as the streaming platforms most streamed artist in 2017.

In total, Sheeran clocked up over 6.3 billion listens across the world, easily topping Drakes winning tally from last year (4.7 billion).

The Brit not only nabbed the honor of most played overall his album Divide was the most streamed album, and his naggingly-catchy single The Shape of You was the most streamed song.

There is, at least, one category that Sheeran didnt dominate: That of most-streamed female artist, which Rihanna won. So, theres still somewhere to take refuge from his all-encompassing blandness.

The news of Sheerans Spotify victory comes on the heels of last weeks announcement of the 2018 Grammy nominees, where the 26-year-old was noticeably absent from major categories.

On The Ellen Show last week, he explained that he would rather continue to have people coming up to me and saying, like, This song affects me in this way, in a positive way, and like, This song is my wedding song . . . than anything else. I think thats where the validation comes.
